The South offers an extraordinary and striking landscape. Start the day from Curepipe and its dormant volcano, Trou aux Cerfs. From its peak, you can enjoy the amazing and unique view of the central plateau. You can then proceed to Grand Bassin, (Ganga Talao), a natural lake which sits in the crater of an extinct volcano. It is believed that the lake holds water from the holy Ganges. Since then, the Hindu community staying in Mauritius considers Grand Bassin to be the most sacred lake and a place of pilgrimage. The final destination is Chamarel: a real natural wonder, and a fascinating place in the south-west of Mauritius. Before reaching the seven colored earth, there is the magnificent Chamarel Falls of around 100 meters above the lushly vegetation. The seven colored earth, in fact, form beautiful and wavy patterns ranging from tan to brown and red to purple shades. The scientific explanation given to the seven colored earth is the presence, into the soil, of volcanic ashes containing inorganic oxides of various colors. Chamarel is also a lushly natural place where coffee is cultivated.
